DESCRIPTION:BRICK WALLS AND BREAKTHROUGHS \nShaarei Shomayim\, 470 Glencairn Avenue\, Toronto \nWednesday\, June 13th\, 2018 at 8:00 p.m. \nDoors open at 7:30 pm \n  \nThe Jewish Genealogical Society of Toronto offers the much anticipated Brick Walls and Breakthroughs for 2018! \n  \nLes Kelman (originally Kelmansky) knew about his grandfather (born 1870 in Ukraine – died Glasgow 1945).  He even had a “name” for his great-grandfather.  But that was the end of the road.  Then he obtained the 1858 Revision List for Pogrebishche\, Ukraine\, with lots of Kelmanskys\, but still no way of filling the gap between 1858 and 1870.  Les will share how he discovered a link that enabled his research to go back in time to 1775. \nLes has been an active member of JGS Toronto since the early 1990s and served as President of our Society (2013-2016) and as the Programme Committee Chair for many years. \nMerle Langbord Levine’s grandparents were influential in her upbringing and encouraged her desire to go after her roots and heritage.  Google and My Heritage autosomal DNA testing results led her to a distant cousin living in Florida.  Merle was able to trace her family back to the mid-1700s and obtain new information as to where the family lived in Poland.  She also discovered what happened to the family during the Holocaust\, providing details never disclosed to her Langbord grandparents. \nMerle has presented at JGS Toronto on several occasions.  She is a professional educator who is in private practice tutoring students. \nNeil Richler’s presentation is entitled “Using Family and Online Resources to Track a Distant Branch of Long Lost Family”. Neil’s success came about as a result of an interview with his great-grandfather and by using current online genealogical resources. \nNeil has been a Society member since 1992 when he began his family research.  He has presented various workshops for JGS Toronto and has served as a JGS Board member for over twenty years serving as the long-time Membership Coordinator.
