DESCRIPTION:The initial meetings of our Special Interest Groups (SIGS) are as follows: \nLITHUANIA – THURSDAY\, NOVEMBER 2ND \nPOLAND – THURSDAY\, NOVEMBER 9TH \nThese meetings will be held at the Toronto Family History Centre located at 24 Ferrand Drive in Toronto\,\nfrom 7:30 to 9:00 pm. \nAt these meetings we will decide on future plans and meetings and review communications facilities of the JGS website’s Forums.  We can use your expertise and assistance as we begin our SIGs journeys.  If you are interested in helping\, please contact us at sigs@jgstoronto.ca \nThere is plenty of free parking at the Toronto Family History Centre.  The Centre is also easily accessible by TTC.  Take the bus east on Eglinton Avenue to Don Mills Rd. where it is only a short walk to the Family History Centre. \nIt is not too late to register to attend any or all of these meetings.  Just write to sigs@jgstoronto.ca. \nThere is no charge for anyone to attend the initial SIG meeting.  However\, subsequent meetings will be free only to JGS Toronto members.  Only JGS members are able to access our SIG forums on this website.

DESCRIPTION:Henry Wellisch President Emeritus\nDoors open at 7:30pm \nHOW TO FIND VICTIMS AND SURVIVORS OF THE HOLOCAUST \nIt has been said that the Holocaust has been more researched than any other event in modern times. However\, the innumerable books\, articles\, films\, etc.\, have mainly focused on events and not so much on individuals. Research to identify victims and survivors is a specific undertaking \, and fortunately over the last several years more resources to find them have come to light\, and more institutions have made their holdings accessible to the public on line.\nHenry’s presentation will focus on some of the major resources\, such as Yad Vashem in Jerusalem\, the US Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington and the International Tracing Service (ITS) in Bad Arolsen\, Germany.\nThese and other institutions have now installed search engines and can also be contacted via email. Other important resources such as the Jewishgen website\, Yizkor books\, various memorial sites such as Auschwitz\, Dachau and Buchenwald with their archives will also be discussed.\nOur Speaker\, Henry Wellisch turned 95 on Sept. 22nd.  Henry led a complex and interesting life.  He is a Holocaust survivor himself.
